Jamie Clack joined Anabas at 16 as an IT apprentice with limited formal experience. In under two years, he completed his Level 3 ICT Support Technician apprenticeship, building the skills, confidence and experience to progress his career within the business.
I started at Anabas in April 2024 as an IT apprentice. Before that, I had very little knowledge of IT. Most of what I knew came from experimenting with computers at home. Thankfully, I had Nigel, our IT Director, and the team at Baltic Apprenticeships to guide and support me through my apprenticeship. The mix of on-the-job learning and structured support really helped me gain confidence and settle into the role quickly.
Having just completed my Level 3 ICT Support Technician apprenticeship in January 2026, my immediate focus is on continuing to develop in my current role. In the long term, I’d like to build my skills in project work, gain a wider understanding of networking-based IT, move into a more senior IT support role, and eventually manage an IT team.
Most of my learning has taken place on the job, primarily through shadowing Nigel alongside studying for my apprenticeship.
Anabas has been really supportive throughout, giving me the time and guidance I needed to develop my skills and complete my apprenticeship. Being able to apply what I was learning straight away in my daily work made a big difference in understanding IT support and problem-solving.
For me, it’s the people. I really enjoy meeting colleagues from different backgrounds and learning about the role each person plays in the business. The teamwork and support here make it easy to settle in and feel part of something bigger.
I also love the variety of clients we work with and the impact we have in their offices, helping to create great workplace experiences in some impressive environments.
I’ve definitely become much calmer under pressure. In IT support, staying calm and reassuring others is key, especially when someone is frustrated with equipment or software.
This growth has really helped me focus on solving issues efficiently and staying confident, even when situations get challenging.
One time that stands out is when Nigel and I spent three weeks working Monday to Thursday in the London Support Centre to roll out a new mobile phone contract.
Being away from home for nearly a month felt like going above and beyond my usual responsibilities at Anabas, but it was a fantastic experience. I learned about mobile phone management, project preparation, and met colleagues from across the organisation.
Absolutely. Anabas is a place where you can progress, achieve qualifications, and feel genuinely welcomed by the people around you.
I’d say the most important thing is to be eager to learn. In an apprenticeship, you pick up new skills every day, often very quickly. In IT, especially, it’s important to stay positive and approachable. Keeping a smile on your face and a calm attitude really makes a difference, both for you and for the people you’re supporting.
