Esme Goodwin joined Anabas as an apprentice in April 2024. Now halfway through her Electrical apprenticeship, she’s building confidence, technical expertise, and independence while taking on greater responsibility across the business.
I started my Electrical apprenticeship at Anabas in April 2024. Over the past two years, I’ve grown both personally and professionally. I’ve developed technical expertise, gained confidence, and learned to take on increasing responsibility. I’ve achieved milestones I never expected. Two years ago, I was a completely different person, and Anabas has helped shape who I am today.
I don’t have a fixed goal for the future yet but I aspire to be the best I can be. I want to gain further qualifications like LV AP, progress into an engineering position, and eventually leading my own team. I’m also keen to deepen my knowledge of switch panels and large distribution panels.
As my Electrical apprenticeship has progressed, I’ve been trusted with increased responsibility. With the support I receive, I can successfully balance my full-time role and one day of college each week.
Anabas has supported my development at every stage, helping me reach several key milestones. These include being given my own QFM (CAFM system) account, which enables me to receive and manage jobs independently. Learn how to fault-find and problem-solve electrical installations.
My mentors encouraged me to diagnose issues independently before stepping in with guidance, which really helped build my confidence. I’ve also been provided with my own simulation board to practise electrical installations in a pressure-free environment before carrying them out on live sites.
My favourite part of working at Anabas is my team. Being part of a supportive and close-knit team makes a huge difference, and I genuinely wouldn’t be able to do this without them.
I also love knowing that the work we do makes a real difference for our clients. The encouragement and support I receive every day motivates me to keep improving and pushing myself further.
My confidence has grown immensely throughout my Electrical apprenticeship. Before joining Anabas, I struggled to hold conversations and often felt overwhelmed in social situations.
Working in a professional environment pushed me out of my comfort zone. This significantly improved my communication and social skills. This growth has a positive impact on my role, allowing me to interact clearly and confidently with clients, and actively contribute to my team.
I always aim to go above and beyond. I take pride in my presentation, work ethic, and the quality of my work. This commitment extends beyond my day-to-day role and into my studies.
I was recognised for my consistent effort and enthusiasm when I received the Electrical Apprentice of the Year award at the New College Swindon Apprenticeship Award Scheme 2026. I have also been nominated for the Overall Outstanding Apprentice of the Year 2026 awards.
I regularly put in extra effort to maintain high standards, remain reliable, and support my team wherever possible. Whether it’s taking ownership of tasks or stepping outside my comfort zone, I’m always keen to add value and contribute to business success.
100%. It’s not just a workplace. It’s a community. Everyone is incredibly supportive, and my ideas and contributions are always listened to, especially when I suggest improvements.
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Mistakes are key to learning. My mentors told me this from day one, and it is proven time and time again. Trust the process. The support around you really does make all the difference.
