How to sustain company culture in the era of hybrid work

For corporate businesses, the shift towards hybrid working has presented challenges around maintaining and improving workplace culture for employees. In fact, research suggests that a third of workplace leaders think their company culture has weakened since the shift towards hybrid working brought on by the pandemic.

In this blog, we share our ideas on how to maintain and foster a positive workplace culture for employees who split their time between the workplace and home.

Boosting employee engagement in the workplace

There are several benefits to boosting engagement in the workplace, such as improved morale, increased productivity, and a happier workforce. As a result of this, businesses will naturally be able to maintain a positive workplace culture.

Strategies to boost employee engagement among teams include implementing learning and development opportunities to motivate and connect them with the success of a business. This can include online learning courses for remote workers, as well as practical educational workshops in the office to get teams together to learn.

At Anabas, we offer a range of learning and development opportunities to our employees to keep them engaged in their roles while demonstrating our commitment to their professional growth. A good example is the training and development we provide to our security teams. We deliver several online top-up training courses and in-person seminars to help our officers stay abreast of new procedures and practices that will improve the service delivery for our clients.

Foster communication and collaboration

Hybrid working now means that businesses need to work harder than ever before to build communities and foster connections that are intrinsic to a positive workplace culture.

During the pandemic, virtual team-building activities and events like exercise challenges and quizzes rose in popularity, and are still effective ways to promote inclusivity and forge connections between employees. At Anabas, we use a new intranet platform for our teams to access and share employee news, business updates and information about workplace and virtual events. This enables them to collaborate and communicate with each other regardless of their proximity, to maintain a shared sense of belonging.

To support in-person collaboration in our clients’ workspaces, our workplace community manager role is responsible for organising a wide range of events and initiatives that encourage employees to get together. It’s their role to get to know the people in the workplace and implement changes and ideas to support collaboration, and subsequently workplace culture.

Prioritise employee mental and physical wellbeing

Employee wellbeing underpins a thriving workplace culture. Supported, valued and engaged teams are more productive, loyal and motivated in their roles.

At Anabas, our facilities managers are integral to supporting employee wellbeing in the workplace by maintaining high levels of health and safety. They identify and mitigate risks, and monitor environmental factors as they look to make improvements for employee comfort and wellness.

To foster a positive workplace culture in the hybrid working era, businesses should explore innovative approaches to connect teams, boost engagement, and prioritise mental and physical health. The people-centric nature of the modern facilities management team places them in the best position to implement the changes needed to forge a thriving culture for employees – wherever they choose to work.
