In this blog, we explore the benefits of increased employee engagement in the workplace and how facilities management teams can help achieve this.
Engaged employees are motivated employees. According to research by Gallup, highly engaged teams are 18% more productive than their lesser counterparts.
Facilities management teams are often in the best position to support employees while in the office to increase engagement. For example, they can ensure that there are plenty of spaces to carry out collaborative work, a particular requirement for hybrid workers, or providing additional in-person support to all employees.
At Anabas, our floor captains are on hand to help those working in the office and provide this level of support. Their role is to proactively look for ways to improve an employee’s day and the overall workplace experience. They can configure spaces to aid collaboration, use technology to adjust environmental factors in workspaces to improve comfort, or even help set up AV equipment for an important meeting.
By supporting an employee’s needs and making the workplace more efficient and enjoyable, they are more likely to be engaged and productive in their roles.
When employees feel engaged and understand their role and the impact it has on the business, they are more likely to stick around.
Learning and development programs are among the most effective strategies for both boosting engagement levels and minimising churn. One way to do this is to provide employees with a range of professional development opportunities to ensure their career trajectories remain fulfilling and engaging. For example, we encourage our people to identify courses and training opportunities to help them progress further in their roles. Apprenticeships, top-up training, and bespoke qualifications are just some of the ways we have motivated our teams to improve our employee engagement rates. In 2023, our employee engagement score was an impressive 86%.
Employee engagement is not solely about work-related tasks, it also encompasses the overall wellbeing of individuals, too. When employees feel valued, they are more likely to be engaged in the workplace.
New roles in FM have developed to focus on promoting wellness in the workplace. Recently, we have introduced community engagement managers at some of our client sites, whose responsibilities involve organising and overseeing initiatives that are focused on employee mental and physical wellbeing. These can include in-office wellness classes like yoga, dedicated mental health first aid support and workplace community events that cultivate employee wellbeing and, subsequently, engagement.
By prioritising employee engagement in the workplace, businesses can create a positive workplace culture that nurtures motivation, productivity and wellbeing.
Research also shows that a great employee experience drives a great customer experience. Put simply, employees who are fully engaged will do what it takes to meet and exceed your expectations. Over time, this can enhance customer retention, increases sales, revenue, and profitability.
Our role as facilities managers is to support businesses as they implement their engagement strategies, and the people-centric nature of our approach places us in the best position to help. The bottom line? Experience is everything...
